Fight Diabetes with Exercise

For people who have diabetes, the benefits of exercise can’t be said enough. This is because exercise helps lower your blood sugar levels and boosts your body’s sensitivity to insulin, thus countering your body’s insulin resistance. Here are some exercises you can do to help manage your diabetes:

CanDo® Intensity Loop Exercises

CanDo® Intensity Loops are amazing resistance bands that offer greater resistance than our standard CanDo® bands. The intensity loops are perfectly suitable for beginners and people who like to do strength training in general. And if you work your way up to the heavier resistances, you can really push your body to the max. The Intensity Loops allow for total body exercises. You can do banded push-ups, pull-ups, squats, deadlifts, resistance weight training and much more. With this wide variety of strengthening activities, you can really benefit from your blood sugar control.

Swimming

But strength training alone is not just going to help. You need to combine strength training with aerobic exercises. Swimming is a great aerobic exercise that can really give your heart, lungs, and muscles a workout, all while putting little stress on your joints. If you are a good swimmer and feel confident, why not add a swim belt to your swimming exercises? CanDo® Swim Belts offer a offers smooth, comfortable fit that can be a great low-impact exerciser with the added resistance to your movements.

Walking

Don’t have a gym membership or a pool of your own? Walking is another aerobic exercise that you can do just about anywhere. You don’t need any fitness equipment, just a path you can safely walk on for a couple of miles. You can take the dog for longer walks or use your lunch break to take a walk. Even choosing to park far away at the grocery store so that you can walk more adds to your aerobic exercises each day. Just be sure to find time during the day to get up and move.

These are just some of the exercises you can do to help manage your diabetes. By combing both resistance training and aerobic exercises, you might be able to have better control of your insulin levels. Please note, this should never be used as a substitute for direct medical advice. If you think exercising more could help manage your diabetes, please talk to your doctor.
